Political trends in China

China is fast becoming a global actor, as its economic and diplomatic presence is felt nearly everywhere. Leaders in Beijing appear to have a vision for China’s role in international affairs, as exemplified by 'a new model of major-power relations', 'major country foreign policy with Chinese characteristics' and 'One Belt, One Road'.

On August 16 2017 the Australia-China Relations Institute (ACRI) at the University of Technology Sydney welcomed Xie Tao, Professor of Political Science at the School of English and International Studies, Beijing Foreign Studies University to discuss current political trends in China and how they may shape the Australia-China relationship. Professor Xie also discussed the US-China relationship.

Xie Tao

Xie Tao is Professor of Political Science at the School of English and International Studies, Beijing Foreign Studies University. He holds a PhD in political science from Northwestern University (2007). His current research focuses on Chinese foreign policy and US-China relations. He is the author of US-China Relations: China Policy on Capitol Hill (Routledge 2009) and Living with the Dragon: How the American Public Views the Rise of China (with Benjamin I. Page, Columbia University Press, 2010). He has also published several articles in the Journal of Contemporary China, including 'What affects China’s national image? A Cross-national study of public opinion' (September 2013). He is a frequent guest on CCTV News, BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera, and China Radio International.
