In light of the death of Nobel laureate and Chinese political dissident Liu Xiaobo, how can the West help promote human rights in China?

Professor Bob Carr, Director of the Australia-China Relations Institute (ACRI) at the University of Technology Sydney, joined Elaine Pearson, Australian Director of Human Rights Watch to discuss Liu Xiaobo's legacy and other issues associated with China's human rights record with presenter Tom Switzer on ABC Radio National's Between the Lines.

Professor Carr said, '[H]uge advances in living standards and freedoms aren't a substitute for...the indispensable principle of the contestability of political power'.
