The Australia-China Relations Institute (ACRI) at the University of Technology Sydney welcomed Chinese-born, English educated, Hong Kong-based business leader Ms Xiao Xiao to address our emerging leaders networking evening at UTS. Ms Xiao is a Director and Deputy General Manager within the China Hongqiao Group, one of the leading aluminium product manufacturers in China. Based in Shandong Province, it is engaged in the production and sale of molten aluminium alloy and aluminium alloy ingots.

What Chinese farmers are learning from Australia

The Australia-China Relations Institute (ACRI) at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in association with NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and the Sydney Institute of Agriculture at the University of Sydney, presented a discussion on the management of grasslands in China. Big environmental gains flow from improved management of grasslands, such as the reduced incidence of dust storms. Sustainable grasslands mean better productivity in raising cattle, sheep, goats and yaks. This is a fascinating area of little known Australia-China cooperation.

The aim of the event was to provide young professionals with an interest in Australia-China relations the chance to connect with peers and learn from their insights.

ACRI Director Professor Bob Carr and Deputy Director Professor James Laurenceson briefed attendees on the work of ACRI and the latest developments in Australia-China relations.

Australia-China Dialogue: IP protection and border enforcement

Myth-busting Chinese corporations in Australia

Among policymakers, media and the broader public, confusion reigns supreme when it comes to Chinese corporations. State-owned enterprises (SOEs) are assumed to be blindly following Chinese Communist Party (CCP) or security service orders with little concern for their own commercial interests. And private Chinese firms are conflated with SOEs and viewed as pawns in the CCP’s regional expansion strategy, despite the enormous growth of the Chinese private sector over the past two decades.

The Australia-China Relations Institute (ACRI) at the University of Technology Sydney presented a panel to assess current economic data from China.The panel explored China's current economic prospects and what it  might mean for Australia, and also discussed the impact of US policies under Trump.
